In 1971, Yves Ruffin and his wife, Odette Pitois, found the company in Avenay-Val-d’Or, a Premier Cru village located between the Vallée de la Marne and the Montagne de Reims.
Both of them were born in champagne region families, who had been winegrowers for decades.
From the start, they stood out from other winegrowers by choosing organic viticulture. Among thousands of winegrowers at the time, they were among the very first visionnaries to take this decision in order to defend common values and the environment.
1971•1990
Yves Ruffin and his son Thierry started to dug our cellar in the famous chalk of the champagne subsoil.
Thanks to this, regardless of the season, our bottles are kept in ideal conditions with constant hygrometry rate. Each bottle is riddled by hand before being disgorged.
the cellar
Our cellar is quite special since it’s dug in a hill and thus entirely on ground level. The digging ends only during the 1990s.
Expansion
In order to increase the bottles production, the family buys one-half hectare of vineyard in Tauxières-Mutry, a Premier Cru village near Avenay-Val-d’Or.
From this moment, our vineyard overlaps both Vallée de la Marne and la Montagne de Reims and extends over 3 hectares.
THIERRY RUFFIN
After Yves’s retirement, Thierry Ruffin takes over the maison and starts modernizing it while perpetuating the know-how that made the maison stand out: organic viticulture, vinification in oak barrels, traditional pressing, longer ageing…
1995
Five years later, Thierry introduces the idea of collaborating with artists to create the labels of his cuvées. He chose Nicole Bottet, Gottfried Salzmann and Nieves Salzmann.
Sylvie ruffin
2007
After the premature passing of Thierry, Sylvie, his wife who was on his side for many years, took over the family business to perpetuate the traditions of the maison.
Antonin Ruffin
2021
In 2021, Antonin started working in the company with his mother Sylvie. He became the owner after the retirement of his mother in January 2025.
